Veteran Hunger
HAFB started Alabama’s first food bank supported veteran pantry onsite (Dr. Joseph Ward’s Veteran Food Pantry in Tuskegee), with over 8,000 meals served in year one. US VA Secretary McDonough gave HAFB recognition for our efforts at the 100th anniversary of Tuskegee’s VA Medical Center.
Veteran hunger affects as many as 1 in 9 working-age veterans in our nation and as many as 1 in 4 active-duty service members.
Since partnering with the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs through the Civic Engagement office in January 2023, HAFB has distributed over 25,000 meals at community veteran events focused on mental health and preventative screenings.
