The 8,000-square-foot freezer expansion allows MAFB to source, store and distribute
up to 1 million more protein-based meals to the 35 Alabama counties its serves
MONTGOMERY, AL – April 6, 2023 – The Montgomery Area Food Bank at 521 Trade Center Street in Montgomery celebrated a grand opening of the new warehouse with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The warehouse’s 8,000-square-foot freezer expansion brings the total square footage of the distribution center to 93,000 square feet and the total number of warehouses to five. The freezer has an increased storage capacity of one million meals, primarily consisting of proteins vital to our communities across Alabama.
“This addition allows MAFB to better and more economically source, store, and distribute food in increasing amounts to the 35 communities we serve across Alabama, having an immeasurable impact on hunger and food insecurity over the coming years.” Michael Coleman, Montgomery Area Food Bank CEO
The space and height in the new freezer allows MAFB to extend our storage capacity. MAFB will be able to take advantage of opportunities to acquire and store products for longer and with greater flexibility. Our impact is significant, but the need is still great. Across the 35 counties, MAFB serves, there are over 230,000 people battling food insecurity.
