Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

The Heart of Alabama Food Bank helps people access SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps), which provides monthly benefits via an EBT card—usable much like a debit card—to purchase groceries that support good health. SNAP funds can be spent at many supermarkets, grocery stores, and select farmers’ markets, covering almost all food items (excluding hot prepared meals), as well as seeds and plants intended for growing food. The organization offers an online eligibility screener and assistance with the application process to make accessing benefits easier for those in need.
