Sysco Food Drive

Tuesday August 2, 2011- Saturday August 13th the Huntington Area Food Bank
and Sysco food distributors will host the first ever "Neighbors CAN DRIVE
out Hunger" food collection from 9am until 4pm. This is a multi state food
collection including Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.
The goal is to not only collect food to be distributed through our
network of 270 member agencies but to also set a Guiness world record
of over 600,000 pounds of food collected in a 24 hour period.
Collection points will be Pullman Plaza Hotel at 1001 Third Avenue in
Huntington and the Huntington Area Food Bank at 1327 Seventh Avenue.We are
also please to be working with Kindred Communications and the Big Sandy
Arena who will facilitate a collection effort at the 16th Annual
Huntington Rib and Music Fest. Collection barrels will be placed at the
Ribfest entrance Thursday through Saturday.
The Huntington Area Food Bank is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit organization
affiliated with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief agency in
the United States. We service 270 agencies in Ohio, Kentucky and West
Virginia.
HAFB receives products from Feeding America, USDA, local donors, regional
grocers, restaurants, farmers, food manufacturers and food processors. We
distribute these perishable and non perishable items free or at a
discounted price which assists in covering our maintenance and
transportation expenses.
